Post Tornado Emotional and Spiritual Care
The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program described the stages that a community goes through when recovering from a disaster, and according to their stages, our community is entering the stage of disillusionment. The April 27th trauma was devastating. People need to talk. We have coordinated a team of 12 caregivers who are Stephens Ministers and professional counselors from six of our supporting churches: First Baptist, Huntsville; First Pre.sbyterian; Holmes Street UMC; Grace Presbyterian; Madison UMC and First Presbyterian, Athens. Please call The Vine, at 256-461-8580.
Surviving Suicide of a Loved One Support Group
When a loved one commits suicide, this is devastating for family members and friends. The grief is complicated and difficult. There are so many questions. Survivors of suicide have the unique ability to understand each other, to speak words of hope and to offer each other support. Those who attend pray for each other, share resources including scripture and offer encouragement. To feel like you are able to help another person actually aides with your own healing process. The Surviving Suicide of a Loved One support group meets on the first Monday of the month, from 11:45 to 1:00 at the Church of the Nativity Episcopal Church in downtown Huntsville. It is co-led by Jane Troup, member at Church of Nativity, Episcopal, and by Amanda W. Ragland, D.Min., LMFT who is the Executive Director of The Vine. For more information, call The Vine, 256-461-8580.
